Mike started cycling in 1961 and won four State Championships in Michigan before graduating from college and starting to work at Ford Motor Company. Career responsibilities reduced his involvement in cycling until 1978 when he pursued writing books in addition to his responsibilities at Ford.
Mike was co-author of three books: The Custom Bicycle (1979), The Ten Speed Bicycle (1979) and Cycling for Sport (1984). During those years, he was a contributing editor for Bicycling magazine and coached the Rainbow Cycling Club, whose riders won 180 State Championship medals and 16 National Championship medals. Riders he coached went on to win 12 World Championship medals and numerous other honors. Mike raced again in Seattle, Washington and won the State Championship in 1982.
After retiring from Ford Motor Company, Mike moved with his wife Lisa (who has won numerous bike races including 18 State Championships) to Scottsdale in 2001 to pursue a healthy lifestyle while contributing to the development of cyclists.
In 2006, Mike took over the Strada Racing Club as president and coach. Since that time, Strada members have won 11 National Championship medals and 182 Arizona State Championship titles.
The tradition continues.
