tour de tucson

Thanks to Greg Hemmerlin for the following report:
Michael and Greg rode in the 40 mile event and Michele entered the 109.  This was both Michele and Michael’s 4th consecutive year participating in this event.  We also saw a couple other team Strada guys at the finish.  Michele completed a very tough day and finished mid-field in the 109.  We actually caught and passed her less than 2 miles into our ride as we merged with all the other distances.  They moved the start location for the 40 mile event this year which added more climbing and 5 additional miles.  The winds were relentless with gusts to 30+ mph, due to the course layout they were cross or in our face the whole ride.  We started about 200 back and worked our way up picking off riders one by one.  Michael’s excitement and energy at the start put me in the red zone several times as he attacked on each climb for the first 10 miles.  He was riding like it was a 200 meter sprint…  I thought he would blow up and hit the wall but he never did.  He continued to bridge and pass groups of riders from all distances all the way, passing one more guy as I led him out to a 200 meter tailwind sprint finish.    We are resting today!

single track

Mark Soderstrom did well in his single track race but was "stuck" behind a few riders with no way to get around them. Anyone that has raced single track knows this senario all too well! Read More...

cave creek bike festival

Check out the front page story about the bike race featuring a picture from last year....yes, that is Sam Gross showing the riders the way home!
Although we had a few riders in the 2nd Annual Cave Creek Bike Festival, we got reports only on our youngest member in the race: Tag Broaderip. Doesn't he look formidable in his first race wearing his Strada kit? Read More...

strada hilly hundred

Our second annual Strada Hilly 100K Charity ride was a great success thanks to our members who rode the event and those who supported it. Special thanks go to the Pat Henley, John Terrey and Don Henley who provided all of the food and also acted as a sag wagon for our riders. We also thank our ride leaders who worked very hard to get everyone through the tough ride in a safe manner while having fun: Jeff Biever and Drew Albert in our lead group and Jay Natoli and Ron McFadden in our second group. It was perfect weather and our members contributed $700 to the Alzheimers Association. Thanks for your generosity!

fury at mcdowell

We had three members who competed in the 12 and 24 Hours of Fury at McDowell Moutain Park: Nick Thorpe, Paul Broaderip and Matt Berault. Nick rode in the 12 hour event and his team finished in a very close second place overall. Congratulations, Nick.
Paul and Matt continued their winning ways with an overall victory in the 24 hour event although our sympathy to Matt who fell and broke his hand. Ouch. It takes a special kind of courage to race mountain bikes in rugged terrain at night and we applaud them for their great results. Read More...
