colossal cave stage race

The event included a time trial on Saturday morning, a criterium on Saturday afternoon and a hilly road race on Sunday. Drew Albert competed in his first stage race as a Cat 2 due to his recent upgrade...no small accomplishment in less that two years from  his start in cycling! He had a really tough time because, for whatever reason, the field was extremely small but still made up of some really tough riders.  He entered the final stage, the road race, in second place and well before one third of the race was completed, he was alone with one of the best Cat 1's in the State and a multi-time state cat 2 champion. He fought, they fought. Congratulations to Drew for his fine second place on overall GC and more points to his standings.
Don Henley travelled to Tucson with Drew and faced a larger field and, in addition, in spite of being 15 years old, he was put into the races with  up to 18 year olds. Don continued his string of strong rides with a close second place in the tt (he doesn't even ride with aero bars or a TT bike yet), a second place in the crit and entering the last day he was in second place on GC and third place overall among the juniors! The hilly terrain broke up the pack and Don continued to stay with the leaders. Don was easily able to overpower the only remaining junior in the lead group as he got his third second place finish of the weekend and finished a great Second place in GC. Congratulations, Don on another great ride.
