THANKS:
Again we thank Rhonda, Paul, Mike LaNue and LYON'S ROOFING for buying and donating the aero helmets to Strada....they were put to good use today in the State Championship Individual Time Trial.
Also, thanks to Gregg Yatko and Jeff Biever for saving the day by providing last minute tech help.
RACE REPORT:
We had the largest contingency of Strada riders at this tt in our recent history. It was a very tough day with a stiff headwind against the riders as they fought uphill all the way until the turnaround.
Results:
Junior Women (13-14) Madi Cocuzza came away with another gold medal to add to her collection this year. It was a great fight as she caught our newest Junior Woman member, Mason Kuluris....then Mason refused to be dropped and they fought all the way to the finish line. They sewed up a 1-2 finish. Congratulations, Madi and welcome to Strada, Mason. For next season, Madi will move up to the 15-16 age group and Mason remains in the 13-14 group so she looks forward to adding to her championship record.
Junior Men(17-18): Drew Albert battled to a third place finish with some of the toughest competition this state has seen. The winner, we understand, is the second youngest Cat 2 rider in US history..only Floyd Landis was younger! This is Drew's last race as a junior...yes, he has his junior 52 t Chainring and junior cassette for sale....and he will enter the next season looking to add to his points as a Cat 3 so he can move up to the Cat 2's.
Junior Men (15-16) Strada was strong in this class in spite of the fact that most of our riders have never ridden an individual tt. Eric Yatko improved from his third place position of last year to come in second. Right behind him was a battle between Nick Thorpe who caught Sean Biever and Sean then refused to let Nick by him. Nick finished third, Sean picked up fourth place and our newest member of the junior men's team, Stephen Kuluris, got fifth. Great job by our juniors. Welcome to Strada, Stephen.
Junior Men (13-14) This class had a big field and some very talented riders. Scott Ford showed his toughness with a fourth place finish, Johnny Angelone got 6th and our prospective new member, Don Henley, came in 8th. We look forward to having Don join us and understand he is enthusiastic about joining our track program.
Masters women (55-59)- Paula DeFrietas rode the best tt of her life and wound up with fifth place as a batch of very strong women just moved up from the 50-54 age category. Most important, she was beaten by the many time state champion by only two seconds where previously she was beaten by over a minute! Great job, Paula. Paula moves up to the next age group next year and plans many additions to her stack of State Championship gold medals.
Both Jeff Biever, pilot of the famous Bievemobile, and Scott Cocuzza, father of the gold medal winning Madi, rode in the senior categories but we have no results to report.
